- In 2025, in the first session of the 119th Congress, TMA partnered with Rep. McCormick to introduce the first national resolution about Myositis Awareness Month: H.Res. 277. Thank you to H.Res. 277 co-sponsors Rep. Jake Ellzey (TX-6) and Rep. Paul Tonko (NY-20).
- In 2006, TMA led the adoption of a similar ceremonial resolution designating September 21, which is now observed as World Myositis Day.
“As an emergency room physician, I have seen firsthand the impact a rare disease can have on a patient and their family. From the difficulty of diagnosis to little-known treatments, individuals may spend many years learning how to live with diseases like myositis. Increasing awareness of myositis, within the public as well as within the medical and research community, is crucial to speeding the time to diagnosis and to improving health outcomes.”
